Lightbox Gallery–Flash Uploader and Media
I store the photos I upload on my computer (as opposed to hot-linking from a URL) after exporting them to a folder from Lightroom. When I originally set up GregAitkenheadPhotography I got in the habit of keeping my images organized this way and then re-uploading them whenever I had to make fundamental changes to the site’s layout. It took me a while to get the posts and their images ordered the way I wanted them to look, but after everything’s set up its easy to add more images. If you’re having trouble in the beginning stages of setup, however, I’d recommend gutting your media gallery and uploading a fresh batch of images.
Here’s the basic process to move photos into a post where they’ll appear as thumbnails, and where clicking on a thumbnail will start the lightbox slideshow. Navigate to Dashboard>>All Posts>>and then hit “Edit” on the post that you want to populate with images (or create a new post). When you get to the “Edit Post” page, click on “Set featured image” in the lower right corner of the page. In the resulting
“Select featured image” pop-up dialogue choose the “From Computer” tab and then the “Select Files” button. Browse to your files and upload.
The files you’ve selected will start uploading immediately–while I’m waiting I add titles, alternative text, and descriptions to the images. Then I click “Save changes,” close the box, “Save changes” again on the media gallery itself (I don’t know if this is necessary), close the media window, and then click “Update” on the post. Clicking “Insert Into Post” during the upload process will just add duplicate images to your post.
